Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Wednesday
We've been stuck in a very similar weather pattern day in and day out since late last week. Things won't change over the next few days.
Showers continue to lift from S to N this afternoon along both sides of the Cascade crest. They will make their way to the Canadian border this afternoon, with the last precipitation lingering near Darrington, Mt Baker, and WA Pass this evening. Drier air has already started to push into the Mt Hood area, with a few sun breaks this afternoon. As it spreads further north, most locations will see at least a few stars poking through the clouds. However, our next wave of moisture is hot on its heels.
A low-pressure system off the Oregon coast will once again spin showers northward into the region. They should reach Mt Hood and the West/East South zones after midnight and spread north toward the I90 corridor during the morning. If this sounds familiar, it's because we've seen nearly the exact same pattern each of the last 3 days. The big difference this time is the position of the Low will cause winds to come from a more S-SW direction. While the storm will still favor the southern volcanoes, it should also impact areas along the Cascade Crest and mountain passes.
Precipitation reaches the northern zones in the afternoon, and showers taper from S to N during the evening. The low pressure will slowly meander along the WA coast Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The exact track of the low will make a big difference in how much precipitation falls. If it moves closer to shore, the mountains will receive higher totals than if it tracks further out to sea.

Directions above indicate the direction the wind blows from on the 16-point cardinal scale. These winds indicate "free" winds, or those winds in the atmosphere not influenced by terrain. Topographical effects may produce greater or lower wind speeds in certain locations as well as significant variations in direction.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Friday
The low pressure deteriorates Wednesday night into an open trough feature. This won't result in any significant precipitation, but it will also keep us from fully drying out. Mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers will continue mainly along the Olympics and west slopes of the Cascades. A much more organized cut-off low passing well to our south will absorb what's left of our fizzling moisture on Thursday. This looks like it sets up a Rex Block pattern that will keep storms well to our north. While not the exact pattern change we may want, there should be plenty of sunshine and dry weather to wind up the week.
